Plywood and Block Boards: Where Lies the Difference

Most of us tend to confuse between Plywood and Block Boards. But one should know well the differences between two to have a clear understanding. Both of them are quite dissimilar in various ways. Let’s look at the major ones.

Composition

Plywood sheets play their parts in the making of wooden furniture. They are processed from various thin sheets of individual wood veneers. Veneers stand for slices/layers of wood. A sheet is made after joining and pressing all these layers together. If the layers are sourced from a hardwood tree, the final finished product will be called 100% hardwood plywood. This is the case in most of the time. If the source of the layers is a Neem Tree, the finished product will be called Neem Plywood.

( The difference between PLYWOOD & BLOCK BAORD )

Now,  a Block Board has a solid core that is made from woodblocks. They are rectangular in shape and sourced from softwood trees. Most of them are of the same size and placed end to end to form a complete core. In a case of plywood, two veneers are attached to the blocks to mould the surfaces.

If board edges are overlooked, plywood and a blocking board may look similar externally. But having a closer look will make certain that the compositions are entirely different.

Difference in Usage

Plywood is used in the making of most furniture. But it doesn’t go well with long pieces of woodwork, such as long tables and benches. It shows a tendency to bend in those cases. So for longer pieces of woodworks, block boards are used. Block boards are also used in making doors, partitions and panels.
